[Review] P.S. I Love You

It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me kiss my husband right after I finished watching.

It's not simply about husband-wife relationship and how you deal with your days after your spouse passes away. It's also about mother-daughter relationship as well as friendship.

I think, it's the kind of movie a pushy and harsh wife must watch--not that I'm one of them, just ask my hubby should you not believe my saying ;D.

There is a statement of Patricia, Holly's Mom, that in a way touched me deeply, "You know the worst thing for a parent... second after losing a child? Watching your child head for the same life you had. You can't stop it. It's a terrible, helpless feeling. Makes you angry all the time."

Patricia, I have to disagree with you. You CAN stop it. Amin.

One thing for sure, I can't wait to read the novel! :D

The Pursuit of Happyness: A Review from the Heart

I've just been crying for about two hours. Thanks to a very beautiful movie, The Pursuit of Happyness.

I might be the last person on earth watching this movie. But, it's better late than never. My best friend Nonie told me to watch it, it was almost 4 months ago (or more, I forgot). But, I kept postponing until today.

And, I'm glad that I did watch it, today...not earlier, not later.

It was simply the right time for me. It touched me most today. And, I believe that it wouldn't have touched me as much should I had watched earlier--or later.

I bet, I don't have to tell you all about the story. You all might have known it by heart.

Maybe these lines, too. But, I need to write them down. For myself. For me. I need them. And, who knows? Maybe some of you need them as well...

Christopher Gardner: Hey. Don't ever let somebody tell you... You can't do something. Not even me. All right?

'Lil Christopher: All right.

Christopher Gardner: You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period.

and

'Lil Christopher: Hey dad, you wanna hear something funny? There was a man who was drowning, and a boat came, and the man on the boat said "Do you need help?" and the man said "God will save me". Then another boat came and he tried to help him, but he said "God will save me", then he drowned and went to Heaven. Then the man told God, "God, why didn't you save me?" and God said "I sent you two boats, you dummy!"

4 Things I've been Dying to Do

  1. Finish my translation and editing.
  2. Watch "Under the Tuscan Sun" (I have the book yet haven't had the time to read it. And last week, I saw the VCD being sold at only Rp. 12.500,- (US$ 1.3), so...would it be unwide if I didn't buy it?).
  3. Read some of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's books that I have bought (short stories and novels).
  4. Write some fictions or finish some stories I have started.

[Review] Premonition

Lack of time out of having to do my job as a freelance book translator—which I normally do after office hours, at home—, I had been missing watching interesting up-to-date movies. And, I even didn’t know that this one, Premonition, even existed.

At first, I was like…oh, why would she (she refers to one of my bestest friends) want me to watch this? What’s in it that makes it so special anyway? But, I watched in anyway since I had promised her that I would do it this weekend—and I’ve just finished it.

So, now, I have to thank her for making me watch it—she bought the DVD for me an sent her driver to drop it at my house right away after I told her that I might have had no time to buy it for I had no plan to go to a mall this weekend. This is a remarkable movie.

I, personally, gave 5 stars for this movie of which the first few scenes gave me a total confusion—although out of curiosity, I have taken a peep on Wikipedia, just to find out what this movie as about. But then, I managed to understand where it was leading to. It was a part romance, part thriller (at least for me, since I hate thriller so much, I don’t like my adrenalin to work that hard!).

At the last few scenes, I tried my best not to cry. Yet, when Linda (Sandra Bullock, how I love this movie star!) woke up in a lovely morning—it was the very last scene—I couldn’t help it. Tears were sliding on my cheeks.

This movie teaches us about destiny. I wouldn’t want to talk much about this one since if I do, it would be a spoiler.

It also teaches us about love. How every moment, expressing love is important for you don’t know what you’ll be facing the next one second, one minute, one hour, one day, one week, etc. Just let the one(s) you love know and be able to feel it.

And, it teaches us about how you need to fight for anything, love, marriage, happiness. Don’t just sit down and watch things (or your life) break into pieces. Fight for it.

Well, up until I write this review (it’s Sunday, August 05, 2007, 01.05 AM), I still don’t know why this great friend of mine made me watch this wonderful movie. But, I really thank her for that.

Any other movie, pal?

:-D

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

Last Saturday night, one of the TV stations in my country played this great movie, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. It's about mixed marriage. It's about love. It touched my heart. It might touch yours, too.

Five stars for this movie.
